It All Started With Banjo
Our commitment to providing hypoallergenic, novel protein treats to pets all started with our rescue dog, Banjo. A nervous, uncomfortable street dog from the South, he was found with almost no hair and plagued with skin lesions. Well, this sweet boy has found his happy life in our home, with all the comforts of a canine king. We learned very quickly that he had very sensitive skin – Banjo was constantly licking his paws and scratching everywhere. After a painstaking journey, we figured out he was highly sensitive to all of the most common proteins - chicken, beef, lamb and more – which are included in nearly all pet food products. We had to quickly become label experts and dive into the world of “novel proteins”.
For a long time, we really struggled to find healthy treats that consisted of a single-source novel protein, and that my picky dog actually liked! Then, by chance, ostrich treats entered our lives. A family friend in South Africa had an ostrich farm that produced dog treats and gladly sent us some to try. Two years later it’s still the only treat line for Banjo. Not only is he thriving, but he has found joy in treats again – saving his skin, as well as our bank account by limiting costly vet visits and medications. So, we decided it was time to share this gift with more pet parents desperate for the perfect treat.
